Stephen Crane poetry

In a lonely place,
I encountered a sage
Who sat, all still,
Regarding a newspaper.
He accosted me:
"Sir, what is this?"
Then I saw that I was greater,
Aye, greater than this sage.
I answered him at once,
"Old, old man, it is the wisdom of the age."
The sage looked upon me with admiration.

I like this cause he knows that he is more wise then the old man.

Final Blog

My favorite topic that I wrote about was the one about my favorite post with the choices of Edgar Allen Poe. I did not like the topic about where places from the sisters' time in Harlem. Most of the time when I wrote my blogs I would just write the minimum I was required to write. I unfortunately probably will not continue to blog unless I think about it and I would recommend next years juniors writing them.

Harlem in Having Our Say

Bessie's dentist office was located at 2305 Seventh Avenue and at 2303 Seventh Avenue, later on. These would've been somewhere around the home of James Weldon Johnson, a famous writer. Sadie and Bessie say that they knew a lot of famous people in Harlem. They also say it was a safe place for them and others to say how they really felt.

Clyde Kennard

here is an article about a little known Civil Rights person named Clyde Kennard. He was insistent about going to an all white college in Mississippi. He is a lot like King because he did not use violence to try and get into the college. He didn't give up even when he was imprisoned and ill from no medical treatment.

Mark Twain Quote

It is better to deserve honors and not have them than to have them and not deserve them.

I like this quote because it is completely true. If someone deserves an award but they don't get it, it shows they've actually done something good. If someone get and an award and don't deserve it, it just shows that the person probably cheated or lied to get the award without doing anything.

Middle Passage/Having Our Say

The slaves on ships going through the middle passage were sometimes able to escape and gain control. This relates to Having Our Say because the Delany Sister's were able to escape discrimination by living at Saint Aug's. They also escaped segregation by building a house in an all white neighborhood. They gained control by going to college and working to earn money for college. They also did what people said they wouldn't be able to do.

Having my Say

I feel that families nowadays are to disconnected. I am very close to my family but I can look around and see that not all families are like mine. I think that families need to make it a point to spend more time together. The parents need to keep their kids home at least for dinner or do more with their kids. I feel that if families spent more time together, there would be less divorce and less fighting amongst families.
